Acupuncture is an Asian therapeutic method of adjusting the bodies “life energy” (qi or chi) flow. Fine needles are inserted carefully on selected acupuncture points along meridians (energy pathway) and are manipulated either by twisting or by a gentle pumping action, thus removing blockages and/or stimulating energy flow. Stagnant energy can be dispersed and whole energy flow regulated. These points are selected based on pulse, tongue diagnosis, observation and questioning. Additionally, cupping and moxibustion are other related treatments that may be utilized along with acupuncture. Both rely on meridian or channel theory and treat selected points along the meridian. Ayurveda Medicine means "the science of life" and teaches us about living, on all levels, in harmony with the environment and the universe around us. It encompassed the oldest form of herbal medicine known dating back to the ancient Vedic culture of India whose people originally spoke the Sanskrit language. Ayurveda recommends a well balanced lifstyle as the way to maintain health based on three fundamental constitutions or body types. Ayurveda is all inclusive in that it encompasses not only yoga, meditation, and food guidelines (nutrition), but surgery and astrology among other areas. The entire science of ayurveda is based on the "Five Great Elements" (Panchmahabhuta) theory. These five elements are earth, water, fire, air, and ether or space. As far as we know, it is the original holistic medicine dating back 8,000-10,000 years. The three doshas or constitutions (aka humoral categories) called vata, pitta, and kapha are associated with these five great elements above. All three doshas are necessary for life to exist. The goal of the healing art of Ayurveda is to balance the three doshas to bring the body, mind, and spirit into harmony with nature. Click here to find Ayurvedic provider in your area.

Homeopathic Medicine (likes treating with likes) or “the law of similars”. A system of medical practice that treats a disease by the administration of minute doses of remedy that would in healthy persons produce symptoms of the disease treated. Its philosophy is well defined. Do no harm, treat the whole person, use powers in nature to stimulate cures from within on the principle of similars, let like cure like. The remedy comes in small pills, granules, tablets, powders, or liquids as prescribed by your physician. Remedies are highly diluted and will have little to no adverse effects on some patients, but can cause minimal aggravations to others. There are guidelines, however, to its administration. The practice includes tongue and pulse assessment, abdominal touch diagnosis, observation diagnosis, listening, questioning, urine analysis, taste, sleep patterns and perspiration.
