Meditation and/or breath work {pranayamas}
- (of which there are many ie. Siddha, Transcendental or
TM, Guided Imagery or Visualization, Mindfulness,
Spirituality and Prayer; T'ai Chi, Chi Kung (Qi Gong) are meditations/yogas
in motion, etc.) all practice the power of concentration and
focusing ones mental self on an object, breath, feelings, or mantra
(sound), thus connecting with the inner powers of the natural
processes of healing and self realization. It has been practiced
for thousands of years by many cultures to promote changes from
the normal levels of perception (or our reality/society) to feelings
of well-being, harmony within ourselves, and is the beginning of
all growth, healing and increased energy; much like our state
in the womb as an embryo{tamas}. Historically meditation
effects changes on heart rate, respirations and relieves body tension
bringing about calmness, detachment, peace, and joy.
