ACNE: is an inflammatory condition of the skin due to
a sebaceous cyst at the bottom of each hair follicle that becomes trapped with natural oils causing
bacterial buildup. This results in red spots, blackheads, or pustules (cysts) and may
appear on the face or upper trunk. It worsens in adolescense, premenstrually, during the hormonal
action in your menstrual cycle, when under stress, from eating a poor diet of excessive sugar, fried
& fatty foods, and starches which are not eliminated through the intestines through bowel movements
and toxins form finding their way into the blood stream.
Self Help – (1) Wash your face at least 2-3x's per day with castile/calendula soap. (2) Drink plenty
of diluted lemon juice which will help to eliminate toxins (ama). (3) Apply vitamin E&F or tea tree oil.
(4) Use chemical free detergents for pillowcase. (5) Reduce stress and sugar in your diet. (6)
Fast at least once per month with plenty of green salads and fruits.

Acupuncture |
Clear damp heat by tonifying the kidney and
spleen meridian, and/or the large intestine and lung meridians. Treatment
depends on the patients constitution or body type. |
Ayurveda
(India) |
This is usually a pitta condition. Apply
chickpea paste, almond paste, sandalwood tumeric paste. Then rinse off and
apply melon facial. Take 1/2 cup aloe vera juice twice a day. Amalaki
herbs cleanse colon. Tea: cumin, coriander, fennel. Eat: rice, oatmeal,
apple sauce. Avoid spicy foods, fried foods, citrus. Treatment varies according to
cause and dosha, of which there are many. Yoga: Lion (Sinhasan) pose. |
Food Therapy/
Nutrition |
Implement a whole foods diet rich in vitamins and minerals.
One that includes chromium, Vitamin A, Selenium, and Zinc. Eat: Cauliflower, cabbage, garlic for sulfur. Beta
carotene rich foods (yellow & green foods) such as carrots, squash, spinach, kale,
chard, watercress, pumpkin, spirulina, chlorophyll, seaweeds. Drink goats milk,
6-8 glasses of water a day, two glasses of raw juice daily (carrot, beet, celery), increase fiber. Avoid
iodine rich foods, animal fats, cow's milk, processed foods (colas, candies, frozen and prepared foods.) |
Herbology,
Western |
Drink sarsaparilla, burdock seed, yarrow
(leaves & flowers) and sassafras root bark tea, or “pat ” this tea on
affected areas. Others may include blue flag root, horsetail & Gelatin. Infusion: of nettle tea or
you can drink the tea 2-3x's per day. Try a steam facial with red clover, lavender and strawberry leaves. |

Holistic |
Fasting 1-2 days per month. Guided Imagery,
hypnotherapy, meditation, yoga, reflexology, shiatsu, lymphatic massage. Hot Epson salts baths 2-3 x's /week.
Wash face with castle/calendula soap. Alternatives to soaps for cleansing are milk, diluted lemon juice, or highly diluted rubbing
alcohol (10 parts water, 1 part alcohol). Expose the areas to air and sun with caution. Exercise daily. Rest and relaxation
is very important. Use non-oil based makeup. Avoid: lanolin, isopropyl, sodium laurel sulfate, red dyes, myristate.
Use 100% cotton clothing and bed linens. Detoxification: Regular use of skin brushing and/or(saunas). Chlorinated water
may provoke acne, use a water filter system when possible. Keep a journal of your eruptions and track foods, soaps, creams,
etc. that are irritating. |

Homeopathy |
Kali-Brom, Hepar Sulph., Pulsatilla, Silicea,
Berberis, Ledum, Arsen alb., Belladonna, Carbo veg. Remedies are based on specific associated symptoms. |

Naturopathic |
Vitamin E with selenium, vitamin C, zinc with
copper for 1 month only, flaxseed or evening primrose, MSM, Emulsified Vitamin A, Beta Carotene, Zinc, Vitamin B Complex,
Omega-3 fatty acids, Brewers yeast, chlorophyll, pancreatin w/meals. Apply 5%
tea tree oil, Oregon Grape Root, Grapefruit seed extract, & zelaic acid cream which may help dry up mild acne. Iodine can
irritate pores. Other therapies to consider: colon, enzymatic, detoxification, oxygen. Diet: Correcting an essential fatty acid imbalnce alone
has had some impressive effects. Contact your practitioner regarding the correct balance for you (flax seed oil, perilla oil).
Colon Health: In many cases a balance of probiotics and fiber (flax seed powder) is essential. Champignon mushroom extract
may also neutrialize toxins in the intestines. |
Traditional
Chinese
Medicine |
Apply calendula. Try sesame seeds, echinacea,
red clover, kelp, burdock, dandelion, licorice, rosemary, yellow dock, or
wild yam-black cohosh complex. Wu Wei Xiao Du Yin. |
