ATHLETES FOOT: Also called tinea pedia. It is a fungus infection that can spread rapidly. It usually affects the moist tissues between the toes, causing redness, discomfort and cracks in the skin, peels and becomes scaly (similar to ringworm). Severe cases can produce infected toenails and oozing with blisters. If this occurs contact your healthcare provider.

Self Help – Keep feet airy, dry and clean using a castile or tea tree soap. Try to get sunlight on the area each day. Soak feet in salt water 2-3 times per day.

Alternative Therapy Suggestions
Acupuncture Deficiency of the kidney meridian. Tonify kidney for clearing dampness with herbal remedies.
Ayurveda

Neem extract, power and/or lotion. Soak feet in basin of crushed garlic or crushed ginger for 10 minutes a few times day until improved.
Food Therapy/
Nutrition
Avoid acid forming foods (red meats, caffeine, soda, fried foods) Eat: yogurt, kefir, tofu, fruits & vegetables. People who are prone to frequent fungal infections, should try adding one or two raw garlic cloves to their diet since it is a strong antifungal agent. Drink: 6-8 glasses of water each day. Apply: honey/garlic poultice to area. Soak feet in cider vinegar & water, or an infusion of goldenseal root, dry w/arrowroot powder & apply tree tea oil.

Western
Decoction of walnut leaf. Infusion of calendula (marigold). Apply: aloe vera gel, witch hazel, Pau ‘D Arco tea or thymol. Jojoba (which has iodine) helps athletes foot. Tamanu oil.

Homeopathy Hepar Sulph, Sulphur, Thuja, Graphites, Telluriun. Remedies are based on specific associated symptoms.
Naturopathic Vitamin C (buffered), lysine, acidophilus, vitamin E, zinc, manganese, vitamin B complex, vitamin A, unsaturated fatty acids, evening primrose oil. Dust feet with baking soda.

Red clover, cajeput, bloodroot. Apply citrus (grapefruit) seed extract, it drys dampness in the body. Soak feet in vinegar water daily.
