HEADACHE: Pain or ache in the head usually caused by stress, tension, the circulation of toxins in the blood due to infection and/or the loss of oxygen in the body due to smoking. There are many types of headaches, ranging from caffeine related, exertion, eyestrain, fever, hangover, sinus, migraine to only name a few. One in 15 Americans experience some type of headche at least once a week and no single natural therapy works for all types of between the ears discomfort.

Self Help - Fresh ginger root, bay or feverfew tea. Meditation which promotes vascular and muscle relaxation, slow deep breathing for five minutes (inhale and exhale 10 times deeply and slowly) which will increase oxygen into the body for better circulation. Acupuncture Clear heat through the liver, gallbladder and related meridians.

Meditation, prayer, yoga, pranayama, massage then bathe w/drops of sandalwood. Drink: water and light soups/broths. Ice pack to the back of the neck and upper back.
Food Therapy/
Nutrition
Eliminate: Aspartame, MSG, nitrites (hot dogs, processed meats, red wine, caffeine, chocolate) or foods with tyramine. Go on a short 24 hr. fast, then a more alkalizing diet. Drink: 6-8 glasses of water/juice and include lemon and green drinks, potassium broths. Magnesium rich foods and herbs such as avocado. Celery, Rye. Avoid: salty, refined, chemical foods. If allergic: avoid milk, butter, cheese, cream.
Herbology,
Western
Herbs: Valerian, cayenne pepper, chamomile, tumeric, willow bark (aspirin), meadowsweet, ginkgo biloba. Lavender Oil. Rub peppermint oil into forehead and temples. Teas: St. John's Wort, catnip/sage, chamomile, rosemary, feverfew w/bay leaf. For migraines it is suggested to use either bay (an herb) which contains parthenolides that appear to help prevent migranes by inhibiting platelets from releasing serotonin, or feverfew (taken regularly for prevention in a leaf form). For prevention chew 1-4 fresh feverfew leaves a day, or brew tea by using 2-8 fresh leaves per cup of boiling water. (do not boil leaves) or take feverfew capsules. Feverfew can cause mouth sores, so discontinue use if this occurs.
Holistic A regular practice of meditation, deep relaxation, yoga, biofeedback. Any bodywork practice (Rolfing, Feldenkrais, Alexander technique, polarity therapy, massage, reflexology, reiki) that you enjoy will help calm your muscles and breathing. Hydrotherapy which includes steam baths, saunas, hot baths will reduce tension by increasing blood circulation while removing toxins and waste products from the body. Capsaicin cream.
Homeopathy Nux Vomica, Gelsemium, Aconite, Bryonia, Natrum Mur, Lycopodium, Silica, Spigelia, Magnesium Phos. Remedies are based on specific associated symptoms.
Naturopathic Increase Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin B3, and Cal-Magnesium. Evening primrose, bromelain, DLPA or GABA. Apply cold black tea bags to eyes for 10 minutes. Witch hazel rubbed on temples.

Medicine
Rosemary, wood betony. Apply: Tiger balm or essential balm to the forehead and temples.
